The Referral Form

The Echotech referral criteria are tailored to community echocardiography services.

Over the past few years, much greater emphasis has been placed on the management of cardiac disease in primary care.

The Echotech service allows the delivery of echocardiography set to clear referral criteria and in accordance with nationally agreed guidelines.

Patents may be referred to the Echotech service based on any one of the following six referral criteria:

Patients with suspected heart failure

  1. Suspected CCF based on clinical findings - dyspnoea or peripheral oedema
  2. Suspected CCF based on abnormal ECG or abnormal chest X ray
  3. Suspected CCF based on raised BNP or NT pro-BNP

Patients with heart murmur

  1. Heart murmur with cardiac symptoms
  2. Asymptomatic heart murmur with abnormal ECG or abnormal chest X ray

Other

  1. Suspected cardiomyopathy or left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) based on clinical findings or abnormal ECG or abnormal chest X ray

Please ensure to tick the relevant box under 'reason for referral' on the Echotech community echocardiography referral form.
