Echotech launches GP Handbook

This handbook aims to cover the use of echocardiography in the management of clinical disease processes.

The detailed principles of ultrasound are not covered but it is hoped the reader will gain information that will allow better understanding of the reasons for requesting an echo and how the results should be interpreted in a clinical context.

Echotech (community echocardiography) provides a strategy to support NHS capacity, improve value for money and extend greater choice for patients with suspected heart abnormalities.

18 Week Target

By the end of 2008, no one will wait longer than 18 weeks from GP referral to hospital treatment. It has been suggested that in order to hit this target, the maximum wait for diagnostics needs to be four to six weeks. Echotech is currently working with various Trusts to support the delivery of the 18 week target for their cardiac patients.
